Eastern Columbia Background/History
The Eastern Columbia was designed by downtown architect Claud Beelmen back in 1930. Originally opened as The Eastern Columbia Department Store, the stunning appearance of the building was something to see. It's 13 stories, wrapped in turquoise terra cotta tiles was a shining star in a booming city. It's rooftop sun deck and 4-sided clock tower was a beacon of light from all points of Los Angeles. The building is widely considered the greatest surviving structure of the Art Deco era and is commonly reffered to as the "Jewel of Downtown". In 1985 the building was given status as a Historical Monument.
It was 2007 when downtown developer KOR Group purchased the iconic structure bringing in Killefer Flammang Acrhitects to help re-imagine the 1930's gem creating 147 beautiful warehouse style lofts. Today the Eastern Columbia is by for one of the most sought after address'e in the downtown area. The building's district is kind of a grey area, some call it the southern Historic Core, some say the western Fashion District yet others claim the eastern edge of South Park as it's home.

The highly anticipated makeover of the 1 million square foot Broadway Trade Center is nearing it's completion due in 2021. The renowned Orpheum Theater leading the Theater Renovation plans.
