Grand Lofts (Background/History)
It was 1923 when George Pepperdine (of Malibu's prestigious Pepperdine University) had a vision on the SE corner of 11th & Grand Ave for the headquarters of his Western Auto Supply store. This ground breaking supply shop would handle parts for the popular "Model-T". Mr. Pepperdine brought on architect John Montgomery Copper for the design task. This building served the automobile community and nation for 10 years before it became a UCLA extension center in 1947.
Fast forward to 2005 when downtown heavyweight developers Lee Homes and CIM (Market Lofts & Flower Street Lofts) came in and re-imagined the property. They hired renowned architecture firm Killeffer Flammang to redisign the property into what today we commonly refer to as South Parks "Grand Lofts"!
Grand Lofts (Building Features)
The building itself is modest, but impressive. The current facade stands seven stories and features 66 open floor plan lofts. Dual glazed oversized windows and a simple clean look. Kind of a "no frills" building without a pool, spa or fitness center, but that is how the residents of Grand Lofts like it. A throw back of sorts, a traditional raw structure in the shadow of South Park giants like Ten50, Aven and Evo.
